Le Grappin began in 2011. However, the journey started earlier when Andrew Nielsen realized that his passion was in wine. This Aussie had already travelled the globe, but it was his connection with James Halliday in the Yarra Valley that brought him to Burgundy. You see, Halliday was friends with the famed Patrick Bize of Simon Bize. Suddenly, Nielsen found himself in Burgundy. It was a Burgundy that had turned Andrew to wine early on.


After working with Bize, the vision for Le Grappin soon came to fruition. He wanted to work on a smaller scale. As a micro-negociant he could tell the story of smaller sites that perhaps have been overlooked, but produce amazing fruit, and in turn amazing wine. Making wine in Burgundy is by no means an easy task when you aren’t the successor of an old Domaine, let alone when you aren’t from Burgundy! This has not deterred Andrew Nielsen. He has successfully met the challenge of developing a micro-negociant project that some might deem impossible. The challenge of sourcing fruit for a small project like his is a feat in itself. Diligently, he has sought out and successfully developed relationships with exceptional viticulteurs in the Beaune.


On May 17th we will have the opportunity we get a sneak peek into some of their highly acclaimed 2014 and 2015 releases. Only six years after Andrew Nielsen started Le Grappin he is getting praise from the likes of Jancis Robinson MW, Jon Bonné, and Bill Nanson!
